Music Response

So I’m finally getting around to posting a list that was due a while ago – my top albums of 2006. Except, it’s not that straight forward. If this was 2005, the top 10, she’d be spilling over sir. Instead it’s broken down into a few different categories. I’m sure I’m missing some here and some that are just my brand o’ candy.

Top 10, erm 5
The Rapture – Pieces of the People We Love
CSS – Cansei de Ser Sexy
Keane – Under the Iron Sea
Kasabian – Empire
The Feeling – 12 Stops and Home

Quite Good / These really could slip in and out of the Top 10 at any time
Rogue Traders – Here Come The Drums
Zero 7 – The Garden
Arctic Monkeys – Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not
Hot Chip – The Warning
Boy Kill Boy – Civilian
Muse – Black Holes and Revelations
The Automatic – Not Accepted Anywhere
Lily Allen – Alright Still
The Kooks – Inside Out Outside In
Embrace – This New Day
Wolfmother – Wolfmother
Amy Winehouse – Back To Black (took some time to grow on me… they tried to make me go to rehab…)

Quite Disappointing / Wanted To Like More Than I Did / Liked a few tracks at most
Robbie Williams – Rudebox
Scissor Sisters – Tah Dah (2nd album blues)
The Killers – Sam’s Town (unmemorable, aside from When You Were Young)
Shiny Toy Guns – We Are Pilots (A couple brilliant tracks; Le Disko and Don’t Cry Out but unimpressed by the rest)

Quite Disagreeable
American pop music (shouty hip pop)
Emo ( ; ; )

Quite Looking Forward To
Klaxons – Myths of the Near Future
MIKA – Life In Cartoon Motion (since making this list, I’ve heard it, and I think it goes in the category above for ’07)
Girls Aloud new album
New Kylie Minogue material
Sophie Ellis Bextor – Trip The Light Fantastic
The Arcade Fire – Neon Bible
Follow up albums that may / may not live up to debut albums from 2005/06

  1. Woooot. Glad to see it, mostly for new listening ideas – and your other lists more than make up for the /2 top ten. I’m still working on mine, agreeing as we do that 2005 would’ve been a helluvalot easier.

  2. Maaan what happened to the new Killers. I didn’t even give it a full listen through. The new Scissor Sisters wasn’t super awesome, but I definitely wouldn’t put it in the same league of unimpressiveness as the new Killers.

The Kooks (by your recommendation) and The Arctic Monkeys are both in my top 5 for the year. I’ll have to check out yours as I haven’t heard of many of em.
